Michel Charles Sardou was born on January 26, 1947 in Paris, France. Son of actors Jackie & Fernand Sardou, he followed his parents on tour. After painful studies, Michel took acting lessons & met Michel Fugain, songwriter of his first songs. He performed in cabarets, signed to Barclay & released his first 7" "Le Madras" in 1965. His fourth 7", "Les Ricains", has been censored on radios because of Vietnam war.
In 1970, his first daughter Sandrine was born & Michel wrote songs with Vline Buggy, Claude François' lyricist. Hits came : "Les Bals Populaires", "Mourir De Plaisir", "J'Habite En France", but later, the audience discovered a popular singer. From 1976 to 1979, he has sung "Le France", "Je Suis Pour" for death penalty, "Le Temps Des Colonies" & "Verdun". Michel talked about hatred & feelings, but he also performed for Les Restos Du Coeur & in 1988, François Mitterrand decorated him "Chevalier De L'Ordre National Du Mérite". Michel is often described as an anti-intellectual, anti-homosexual & leader of the "silent majority".
Michel is also a great performer on stage : he received a Victoire De La Musique for his tour in 1999, with 573,900 spectators. His repertoire doesn't include shocking songs only : one of his greatest hits has been "Les Lacs Du Connemara" in 1981.
