Abdou Cherif

Abdou Cherif, also known as “The New Nightingale”, is a singer native of Casablanca. He is the nephew of Abdel Wahab Agoumi, one of the most influential artists in the modernization of Moroccan classical music in the 50s.

After studying literature and planning a career in psychology, he decided to embark in a career of interpretation and charm singing. Abdou Cherif is the representative of the new generation of artists who will mark the renaissance of the “pure” art.

Abdou Cherif succeeded where no Arab male voice did before. He imposed himself during the 90’s, in Egypt the native country of Abdel Halim Hafez, by interpreting the memorable songs of the “Brown Nightingale”. Abdou Cherif takes on Abdel Halim’s intensity, sensitivity, passion, diversity and especially disconcerting simplicity. Today, the Arab public recognizes his talent as the worthy heir of Abdel Halim Hafez.

The choice to dedicate his career to perpetuate the golden age of the classical music is innovative and unusual in the Arab world. His first concert in Cairo was a tribute to Abdelhalim Hafez in 1999. The meeting with the Egyptian public at the Cairo Opera - which welcomes him for two sold-out recitals in front of an audience of more than 1,200 people - will pave the way to success in the Arab world. The next day, all the Medias were talking about the magical performance provided by the “sublime” Moroccan. The Egyptian public was so seduced that they asked the Egyptian television to rebroadcast the whole show.

Abdou Cherif is dedicating himself body and soul to satisfying his faithful fans across the Arab world; always accompanied by an orchestra of more than 50 musicians and chorales, in order to offer to his audience at each concert a trip back in time to the golden age of artistic expression.
