Joan Rivers was a trailblazer for women in the comedy world. The sharp-tongued and hilarious petite star always managed to bring the laughs. The female comedienne died on Sept. 4 in a New York hospital after going into cardiac arrest during a routine throat surgery on Aug. 28. There’s no question about it, Hollywood will always love Joan Rivers. She enjoyed an illustrious 40 year career in comedy, including stand-up and co-hosting the hit fashion show, Fashion Police.
The petite star first rose to fame in 1965 when she guest-starred on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. The show allowed her to show off her comedic style. She became the permanent guest host for the show in 1983. She first appeared on the iconic Ed Sullivan Show in 1966 and wrote sketches for the show as well.
Joan was married two times, to James Sanger in 1955, and Edgar Rosenberg from 1965 until he committed suicide in 1987. Joan had one child from her marriage to Edgar, daughter Melissa Warburg Rosenberg. Joan had one grandchild, Edgar Cooper Endicott.
Joan was “kept comfortable” throughout her hospitalization, and her daughter stayed by her side. Joan was placed in a medically induced coma and put on life support.
