Was there a glare from the camera lens, or was Taylor Swift tearing up at the 47th Country Music Awards last night?
The 23-year-old musician was presented with the CMA Pinnacle Award — which celebrates her status as an international sensation in terms of country music. Presenting Taylor’s award was definitely one of the show’s most memorable moments, seeing as it got a little emotional … but in a good way! The celebration began with a performance by Lennon and Maisy Stella, who serenaded Taylor with their own acoustic rendition of “You Belong With Me.” Impressed by the duet, T-Swift sang along with the young girls, mouthing the words with a huge smile on her face. Taylor gave hugs and kisses to 9-year-old Maisy, as 14-year-old Lennon introduced 8 of country music’s biggest stars (Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, George Strait and Keith Urban) to present Taylor with her special award.
Tim McGraw began the presentation, saying: “It seems like only yesterday, Faith and I asked a very talented 17-year-old young lady with a hit called ‘Tim McGraw’ to be our opening act. In fact, back when she was a teenager, Taylor Swift opened up for each and every one of us on this stage.” A video compilation of Taylor’s achievements was shown to the CMA audience, highlighting her global popularity and philanthropic efforts. A few popular celebrities made appearances in the video to offer their congrats, such as Justin Timberlake, Mick Jagger, Julia Roberts, and Reese Witherspoon. Ellen DeGeneres also gave a comical shout-out, congratulating Taylor on her achievement of the “Pineapple Award.” Leave it to Ellen… The “Red” singer gave a beautiful acceptance speech, sharing how each presenter influenced her work, as well as thanking her teary-eyed family (who also received a cameo appearance), record label and fans.
Taylor took to Twitter to express her gratitude later last night.
